Talk about a debate for the overly protective and elitist "museum crowd"! Do fashion exhibits belong in museums? Why not?...and how else are they going to make the bulk of their funding and PR goals without the celebs and fashion world icons attending such events, anyway?
Even veteran art critic Dave Hickey sums it up quite bluntly:
The major problem is that there are too many museums with too much space to fill. I don’t see why they should not fill it with Balenciaga rather than some hippie artist from Colorado. The good designers are artists, and they are interesting....and, I might add, possibly a bit more timely and relevant to the viewer than the conventional visual exhibit. What's wrong with a little variety?
