[Update: Thanks to Eastsider LA and Echo Park Patch for linking to this post]
A little slice of life in Los Angeles for you -- last night policemen and helicopters were going crazy around our house in Silver Lake, chasing a white Chevy pickup truck which confidently (and repeatedly) navigated through the streets of our neighborhood. The suspect passed by on Silver Lake Boulevard at least 3 or 4 times, drove through Echo Park, and finally ending on the 5 North freeway entrance right off of Fletcher Blvd going towards Atwater Village.
Luckily Nikos had one of his cameras ready to take some shots as they all whizzed by. The commentary on Silver Lake by various local news anchors was kind of funny too -- awkwardly punctuated with rather "insidery" remarks about how often they are in (and familiar with) the neighborhood.
A cop pulled a clean pit maneuver which ended the chase, but who knows why the driver resisted pulling over for so long. He pretty obediently climbed out of his truck and faced down on the ground right away. No K-9 unit last night, though! Maybe next time, as these car chases aren't too unusual for LA.
WHY am I so frickin EXCITED by the fact that the white pickup breezed RIGHT BY MY HOUSE last night, closely followed by a full squadron of screaming black-and-whites??? Why did I run to watch, simultaneously, the action on Ch. 5? Why am I so thrilled and completely absorbed every time I catch a high-speed chase on TV?? I cannot turn away, even as I pray no innocent person gets hurt. I'm beginning to see that I am not some lone perverse freak, at least not in LA. Does this even happen in other cities?
