Talk about a slice of "clash of civilizations"--it may sound rather quaint, but supposedly the British navy blasts Britney Spears' music to fight off Somali pirates along the east coast of Africa.
Merchant navy officer Rachel Owens explains, "Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most. These guys can't stand western culture or music, making Britney's hits perfect. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can."
But Spears' music isn't being singled out in any new way here--Guantanamo Bay inmates have been exposed to hours of Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty", Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA", and even Barney the Dinosaur's "I Love You" during past interrogations.
