"Rather be dead than alive by your social values, rather be dead than alive by your tradition."
Refused played their (alleged) final show here last night at the Fonda Theater. Bronx of course opened with a raucous set, and both bands' frontmen wasted no time talking punk politics to the ravenous crowd. These bands are incredible live. Perfect timing too--Refused played their last song just hours before we jogged to the Silver Lake Recreation Center the next morning to cast our ballots. The turnout was already heavy at 7:15 am; we waited in a long line which luckily was efficient and organized.
It's illegal in some states to photograph your marked ballot, so take a guess who I voted for this morning (shouldn't be too difficult)! I would love more than anything to have a ballot that gives an equal shot at victory to third party candidates, but this time the stakes are simply too high and divisive. Crossing my fingers that last night was a pre-celebration for an Obama/Biden victory…let's see if our country's low-information voters prefer to go backward or forward the next 4 years.
